A Small Textile Collage Wall Hanging : "Mum's Dresses"
"Mum's Dresses" - small textile collage picture
There is only one available of this unique item.
This abstract textile collage is made from a variety of fabrics such as cotton summer dresses and wool blanket batting. It is assembled with hand stitch and decorated with buttons.
The inspiration was my Mother's old summer dresses, which she passes on to me when she no longer wears them. Several in this piece date back to the 1960s/1970s. The red gingham was part of a sash that her Scottish Country Dancing class used to wear. The fabrics show a trip through time from the 60s to the 90s, and the wear and tear of their previous life.
The piece is backed with one of my favourites: a dark blue 1970s fabric with orange and yellow flowers. It has a hanging sleeve with dowel on the reverse, ready to hang on two nails. (The nails are not supplied, but the dowel is included.)
The wall hanging measures approx:-
Height: 33.3 cm (13")
Width: 24 cm (9.5")
Measurements are given at the widest point: the textile is narrower at the top edge.
